ECA - 2020 Convention - Call for Submissions Reminder
Dear ECA Friends,
I hope everyone’s fall semester is well underway and going smoothly!
We are down to the wire: The deadline for regular interest group submissions and short courses is just over two weeks away! Submissions close at 11:59 PDT on October 15, 2019.
Feeling like you need some motivation to make that final push and finish your papers or put that proposal together? In addition to featuring the outstanding scholarship of our wonderful ECA attendees, consistent with its “Harboring Innovation” theme, ECA 2020 is going to offer many special guests and professional development opportunities. Just a few highlights:
- A convention-wide luncheon and keynote by Dr. Andrew F. Hayes, Professor of Psychology and Communication, The Ohio State University “From Graduate School to Retirement: Creating, Managing, and Refreshing a Meaningful Academic Career.”
- Innovations in Qualitative and Quantitative Research workshops by Andrew Hayes and Dr. Heather Stuckey.
- Innovations in Rhetoric and Critical Studies roundtables spotlighting ways scholars like Chuck Morris and Tom Nakayama have used innovation as a guiding principle to push the envelope in their work; and how a new generation of scholars such as Caddie Alford, Rachel Presley, Lanie Presley, and Odile Hobieka are innovating with a blend of interdisciplinary and classical rhetorical approaches to communication criticism.
- The Connect Conference, featuring Dr. Isa Engleberg, will focus on public speaking assessment.
- If you’ve ever wondered whether you would benefit from external funding for your work and/or how to go about finding and securing it, a session with some of our field’s most successfully funded researchers should help!
- Innovations in Teaching and Learning session with Leah McVie on how innovative technology can enhance learning outcomes in our courses—and additional programming on the emerging use of digital texts in communication courses.
- Innovations in Service and Leadership programs on how we can engage in these activities to advance our programs and the discipline—and our own leadership profiles.
- New interactive session formats that will give you the opportunity to engage with our Past Officers, Research Fellows, and Teaching Fellows on the field’s most pressing and interesting innovation needs in the areas of teaching, research, and leadership.
- And many more exciting things we’ll be updating you on in the months to come!
The link for submissions to the 111th Annual ECA Convention is https://ww4.aievolution.com/eca2001/index.cfm. Just a reminder, you will need to log on using your ECA Attendee Interactive credentials. This information is different from your ECA membership login info and your NCA Attendee Interactive username and password. If you do not remember your ECA AI login information, please submit a password request and then be patient. These are processed manually by our ECA Technology Director, Doug Strahler, and can take up to 24 hours.
Finally, graduate students have until December 13 to submit posters, and the deadline for the James C. McCroskey and Virginia P. Richmond Undergraduate Scholars Conference is similarly December 13. I know your students are working on some amazing projects this semester that they should consider submitting to the convention. ECA is committed to graduate student participation, and the Executive Council has authorized a financial stipend for grad students who present at the convention.
